With its eminent scholars and world-renowned library and archives, the Hoover Institution seeks to improve the human condition by advancing ideas that promote economic opportunity and prosperity while securing and safeguarding peace for America and all humanity. **About the Hoover Technology Policy Accelerator:** The Technology Policy Accelerator brings together scientists and engineers on the front lines of discovery at Stanford with Hoover social scientists and policy experts at the forefront of domestic policy and international relations. It aims to help decision makers in government and business better understand emerging technologies so that the United States can seize opportunities, mitigate risks, and ensure that the American innovation ecosystem continues to thrive. It does this in multiple ways, including by educating policymakers and influencing policy for frontier technologies via research and publishing, by convening leaders in the public, private, and academic communities to share views and forge deeper connections, and by inspiring and training the next generation of scientists and policymakers through fellowships, bootcamps, and other initiatives. **JOB PURPOSE:** Perform work to research policy topics, conduct technology-related literature reviews, and manage meetings related to the operations of the Technology Policy Accelerator. Manage the production of the Stanford Emerging Technology Review, the Accelerator's flagship publication, and other products and associated programming. This position is a two-year fixed term with possibility of renewal, onsite. **CORE DUTIES*:** + Assist in identifying existing research of relevance, exercising independent initiative and judgment gained from completing a variety of high level assignments. + Adapt or work out the details of standard operating procedures, with the supervisor providing only general guidance and suggestions. + Interpret, synthesize, and analyze quantitative or qualitative data using scientific, statistical, or interpretive techniques as appropriate. + Conduct literature reviews and provide critical analyses that influence the direction of the research and result in independent contributions to research initiatives under the auspices of the Hoover Technology Policy Accelerator. + Fact-check and otherwise manage manuscripts prior to submission for publication. Manage the production process for the Stanford Emerging Technology Review (SETR) and other products from the Hoover Technology Policy Accelerator. + Engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve goals. + Co-author sections of research publications and regulatory reports as needed. + Complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities as needed. + Supervise staff or students as needed, including oversight and instruction on techniques, as well as consultation on project work. _* The job duties listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification and are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities. Employees may also perform other duties as assigned._ **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:** **Education & Experience:** Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field and two years applicable experience, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science. Strong preference in degree or experience in combination with a STEM related field. **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:** + Comprehensive understanding of scientific theory and methods. + General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs. + Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment. + Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. + Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately. + Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. + Ability to work with human study participants. + Developing supervisory skills. **Preferred/Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:** + Documented interest in issues of national security and/or emerging technologies such as AI or cyber as related to global economic competitiveness and public policy. + Strong library research skills (especially the ability to find references to asserted or claimed facts). + Proficient in Microsoft Office. **Certifications and Licenses:** + None **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:** + Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. + Frequently sitting. + Occasionally stand/walk, reach/work above shoulders, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, use a telephone, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. + Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl. _* - Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of the job._ **WORKING CONDITIONS:** + May be required to work non-standard, extended or weekend hours in support of research work. The expected pay range for this position is$81,130 to $94,895per annum.
