Job Description

Evergreen Strategy Group , a social impact, public policy, and communications agency is seeking a Legal Director with deep experience in law, policy, and issue advocacy. The Legal Director will provide leadership on legal strategy across Evergreen’s portfolio, manage external counsel and legal partnerships, and help shape policy and legal frameworks. As part of the Evergreen team, you will help craft and lead legal strategies that advance progress on some of the most pressing issues, including democracy protection.
Job responsibilities include:

  • Legal & Regulatory Strategy: Serve as a lead legal strategist across a range of issue areas. Contribute to Evergreen’s legal work, including its regulatory and litigation analysis work. Craft legal memos and position papers to advance policy objectives and assess legal viability of campaigns and public-facing strategies.
  • Partner Relations & Legal Project Management: Coordinate with external partners and oversee complex projects to ensure deliverables meet the highest standards.
  • Policy & Legal Content Development: Develop legal content such as regulatory comments, legal fact sheets, legal memorandum, and issue briefs. Review and advise on legally sensitive external communications, including public statements, campaign materials, and op-eds.
  • Substantive Expertise: Closely follow public policy developments, political news, and industry trends. Must have demonstrated experience in mastering new issue areas quickly.
  • Management: Oversee the work of managers, associates, fellows, interns, and external partners as needed.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • A Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar membership required.
  • A minimum of seven years experience ideally including a mix of law firm, government, and/or nonprofit/public interest experience.
  • Deep understanding of constitutional law and administrative law ; litigation experience strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing , and editing skills , with a track record of producing high-quality legal documents and public-facing legal materials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills ; ability to translate legal complexity for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to think creatively to address complex issues.

Evergreen offers a base salary of $130,000 - $160,000 for legal directors, along with our industry-leading 401K matching program, health plan, and PTO policy.
