Job Classification: Community Response Officer 1

The Aspen Police Department is hiring for the position of Community Response Officer. Candidates must complete the NTN Fireteam exam and PSSA.

Salary Information:

Hiring Range: $30.48/hour - $34.29/hour
Salary Range: $30.48/hour - $45.72/hour
Up to $3,000 Sign-On Bonus May Be Available

Position Summary:
As a non-sworn member, you will support the community through public safety and animal safety functions aligned with the department's values and mission.

Supervision:
This position is supervised by the Community Response Supervisor under the Assistant Police Chief of Administration.

Essential Job Functions:

Community Relations: Engage with the public through outreach events, safety education, motorist assistance, VIN inspections, and fingerprinting services.
Emergency Response: Provide assistance during emergencies (medical, fire, alarms) and assume incident command roles when appropriate.
Investigations: Conduct investigations on traffic accidents, code violations, animal control, and lost property. Prepare for court appearances.
Incident Command: Assist in planning and managing large events, such as parades and races.
Special Assignments: Conduct studies (e.g., speed, traffic patterns) and assist in major investigations.
Animal Control: Respond to animal complaints, manage wildlife incidents, and ensure public safety.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: 1 year of customer service experience.
Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and basic computer skills. Proficiency in Spillman or within six months.
Licenses & Certifications: Valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of hire. CPR/First Aid certification, ICS100, ICS200, NIMS IS700, and IS800 within the first year. Emergency driving training (EVOC) within the first year.
Additional Notes:

This role requires a background check, physical exam, polygraph test, drug test, and psychological exam upon hire.
Position Type and Work Hours:

Full-time, with potential for four 10-hour shifts. Evening, weekend, and holiday hours may be required.
Work Environment:

Indoors: Office setting.
Outdoors: Patrol, investigations, court appearances, meetings, and exposure to various weather conditions.
Physical Demands:

Lifting: Up to 50 lbs unassisted.
Physical Activity: Full range of motion, visual acuity, and color distinction. Exposure to environmental conditions and pathogens.
Emergency Response: Participation in life-saving activities.
Fitness for Duty Testing: Includes lifting, dragging, and stair climbing.
